It would have been of great help if the above point about disabling FBA on the FE server had been more prominently mentioned....

I just wasted many hours fighting this problem, reinstalling certificates and going insane....only to spot this blog entry....

Just to prevent others in future from experiencing the same issue...maybe a quick note somewhere would be of use...

Off to bang my head against the wall....
