Multiple ISP Support in a Post RainConnect World

When EMC decided to shut down development and sales for RainConnect, it left a tremendous hole in our ISA firewall armamentarium. RainConnect was our only on-box option for supporting multiple ISPs using ISA firewalls. At this point there are only two options:

  • Use the Network Engines NS series ISA hardware firewall, which comes with built in ISP failover
  • Use a device in front of the ISA firewall that provides support for multiple ISPs

You can find out more about the Network Engines NS Series hardware ISA firewall over at www.networkengines.com

For an interesting discussion on multiple ISP support using other methods, check out this thread over at the ISAserver.org Web boards at http://forums.isaserver.org/m_2002020401/mpage_1/k...022497

My Scenario, ISA server 2004 with 3 NICs, one internal & 2 external, I published Exchange server & OWA on the first external NIC & published RMS server on the second Interface. Now RMS server, the exchange server & OWA work good without any problem but the internet access for the internal user is too slow & unstable. The speed of the 1st interface is 2 m/s & the 2nd interface is 512 k/s, so I need to create a rule for NAT the internal user to the 1st Interface.
How can I create this rule?
Please help me to solve this serious problem!!

There is another solution to the absence of Raindance, its called Peplink. I currently use a Peplink device in front of my ISA and it loadbalances my 2 ISP connections quite well. It also provides automatic failover when an ISP is down and will automatically detect when ISP comes back up.

I also publish email and have VPN connections and it works without a worry.

It can loadbalance up to four ISPs, check it out.

Jesse, would you care and have time to create a small tutorial on configuring PepLink for SMTP with ISA 2006? I have the 200 model and PPTP works fine, but SMTP won\’t bite. When testing with TELNET on port 25, all I get is a blinking cursor. When not behind PepLink, I get HELO/EHLO response just fine.
