as far as I know, Outlook 2003/2007 doesn't support certificates. 

For the Remote Desktop Connection V6 client, I'm not sure. Client certificates might possibly work though I didn't test this scenario. In any case, the use of client certificates defeat the anywhere access goal I wanted to achieve.
